SEVEN - MORAL QUESTIONS

There are indeed a few moral questions raised in the novel, for instance:

1. Racism:

We encounter racism in a few diffrent ways in this novel. First of all is Harris against the marriage between one of his daughters and the uncle of Gat, an indian guy named Ed, thinking it would bring disgrace to their perfect family of tall, wealthy, and white Sinclairs. He also isn't fond of the relationship between Gat and Cady and tries to show that multiple times throughout the story.

2. Grief:

Everyone handels grief differently. Everyone has their own story to tell and copes in a different way, so one example of dealing with tragic events and the resulting emotions is denial: Cady loses her memories, preventing her from finding out the truth and the realisation.

3. Appreciation:

We only appreciate things when they already slipped through our hands. The Sinclairs didn't value their relationship as a family enough, only realizing their loss after the death of their children. They would rather fight about the money and the inheritance rather than seeing what they already have.

4. Making decisions under influence:

You shouldn't make big and delusional decisions under influence of others, pressure, when you're emotional or when drunk. Because of that, the Sinclairs lost a big part of themself and are now realizing the value of their loss. If it wasn't for the drunk teenagers, Harris would still live in his victorian house and the liars would probably be sitting around a bonfire, laughing and enjoying their company.

5. Manipulation:

Harris is clearly enjoying manipulating not only his daughters but also his grandchildren throughout the novel. He turns them against each other, ending up in them fighting about every little thing and them not realizing even one bit.

6. Inheritance:

Inheritance is playing a really big role in this novel, as it is the root for all the fights between the aunts and eventually even destroys the whole family, tearing them apart because the aunts rely to much on their father.

7. Greed:

Greed is just the result of the manipulation of Harris and the dependency of the aunts, making them want the inheritance all for them alone.
