Cadence tells us in the second chapter, that she lives in Burlington, Vermont alone with her mom and their three dogs. She is the eldest Sinclair grandchild, is nearly eighteen at this point and her dad left them at the age of fifteen. She lets us know, that she doesn't own very much, except a well-used library card and that she thinks that everything else her family owns, are expensive, useless objekts. We also learn, that she considers herself part of the liars, consisting of her cousins Johnny and Mirren, but also Gat, who actually isn't part of the Sinclairs. Cadence also suffers from post traumatic migraines, wich she also mentions in the beginning of the book. We later on find out, that Cadence has feelings for Gat, wich she states further into the book.
Gat describes Cadence and the Sinclairs in general as materialistic and spoiled. He thinks that they don't value the worth of their belongings and their privileges. He also mentions, that he doesn't like the way the Sinclais handle emotions, flaws and problems; but Gat also sees, that Cadence is trying to break that Sinclair rule, that she is ready to take the risks to be herself.
Her family thinks of Cadence as an imperfect Sinclair, after she dyed her hair and is starting to show her flaws and that she is hurt. They see her as a person, who needs help and guidance to get along in live. They still love her and Harris even thunks of her as her favorite grandchild.
