ONE - The Sinclair Family
The Sinclairs are an unusual family- or are they?
The Sinclair Family is special, unusual and strange because they're hiding their problems, emotions and everything that doesn't equal a perfect family in their eyes, behind their wealth and privileges. They try to maintain the picture of a perfect family, "No one is a criminal, no one is an addict, no one is a failure" ( first chapter)
The family dynamic is very much shaped by their family pride and everything that disturbs this pride of the Sinclairs must be removed. Their wealth also influences the dynamic of the family, as the kids are spoiled and raised to use their money to their advantage. Love also seems to be a threat to the family dynamic, especially since all of the Sinclair daughters are divorced. Just like that, the relationship between Cady and Gat wouldn't fit into the family dynamic, since Gat isn't tall, blonde and wealthy.
Harris Sinclair is the head of the family, because he's the oldest Sinclair, the one with most knowledge and the one who started the family. When his wife Tipper dies, it is like the color of the family is erased, they become colder and try to hide the fact that she ever existed. Harris becomes more forgetful and it seems like the only person who reminded them, that it's okay to have flaws, disappeared. In "Summer Seventeen", when Cady comes back to Beechwood, Harris is even more lost, he can't go shopping and even had to hire two cooks. The old Clairmont is now renovated. "New Clairmont" is a sleek, modern house with a japanese garden on the side, it is build out of glass and iron. It's cold. The Sinclairs also changed and are even more cold, think they need to take care of Cady and that she no longer is a "perfect Sinclair".
